Objectives: To teach practical English language skills to the student who has very little or no English language ability. The focus is on everyday needs for survival.
Assessment
Orientation
Focus mostly on listening and speaking, using repetition, plus a little writing and reading of essential phrases and words.
Master each lesson before moving on to the next lesson.
Important consideration: Be aware that some learners at this level may not be literate (able to read and write) in their native language. Provide much repetition in person. Use images for understanding. Provide audio tapes for practice at home. Teach less material each week, focusing on their most basic conversation and vocabulary needs.
This level needs many visuals for comprehension, since vocabulary is limited.
Final Evaluation and Assessment at the end of this level.
